While the harm caused by a single bee’s excavation might be minor, the cumulative impact of multiple bees over time can lead to significant damage. They target windowsills, wooden siding, decks, railings, outdoor furniture, and fences. Despite their role as effective pollinators, carpenter bees pose a risk to structures. Males lack a stinger but are defensive around their nests. For individuals allergic to bee venom, prompt medical attention is necessary if stung. Carpenter Bee Behaviors, Threats, or Dangersįemale carpenter bees are usually non-aggressive but may sting if threatened. Signs of a carpenter bee presence often include piles of sawdust and pollen beneath the area they’re excavating. Using her mandibles, the female constructs a gallery, fills it with “bee bread” (a mix of pollen and nectar), lays an egg, and seals the cell with chewed wood pulp. After mating, the female chooses a suitable wood piece to carve a nest, while the male hovers near potential nest sites. During winter, both males and females rest within old nest tunnels, emerging in spring for mating. Carpenter Bee HabitatĬarpenter bees are solitary insects, each creating their own nests in trees, eaves, or building sides. They don’t consume wood, yet their excavation of tunnels in dry, weathered lumber can damage structures. These bees are widespread, spanning from the southern states of Arizona to Florida, and in the eastern region reaching as far north as New York. They stand among the largest native bees in the U.S., sharing that title with bumblebee queens. Carpenter bees, named for their wood-boring tendencies, create chambers in wood for their offspring.

Moment magnitude scale calculator2/18/2024 His basic idea was quite simple: by knowing the distance from a seismograph to an earthquake and observing the maximum signal amplitude recorded on the seismograph, an empirical quantitative ranking of the earthquake's inherent size or strength could be made. ![]() His original definition held only for California earthquakes occurring within 600 km of a particular type of seismograph (the Woods-Anderson torsion instrument). ![]() Richter, a seismologist at the California Institute of Technology, introduced the concept of earthquake magnitude. For all other earthquakes, the moment magnitude (Mw) scale is a more accurate measure of the earthquake size.Īlthough similar seismographs had existed since the 1890's, it was only in 1935 that Charles F. The Richter Scale (M L) is what most people have heard about, but in practice it is not commonly used anymore, except for small earthquakes recorded locally, for which ML and short-period surface wave magnitude (Mblg) are the only magnitudes that can be measured. More on that later.įrom Richter's (1958) book, Elementary Seismology.(Public domain.) Thus, we now use measurements that describe the physical effects of an earthquake rather than measurements based only on the amplitude of a waveform recording. But for very large earthquakes, some magnitudes underestimate true earthquake size, and some underestimate the size. When initially developed, all magnitude scales based on measurements of the recorded waveform amplitudes were thought to be equivalent. Because of the logarithmic basis of the scale, each whole number increase in magnitude represents a tenfold increase in measured amplitude as measured on a seismogram. For example, a magnitude 5.3 is a moderate earthquake, and a 6.3 is a strong earthquake. Magnitude is expressed in whole numbers and decimal fractions. See the Intensity section below for more details on shaking intensity measurements. The shaking that it causes has many values that vary from place to place based on distance, type of surface material, and other factors. Magnitude is the size of the earthquake. An earthquake has a single magnitude. Modern systems precisely amplify and record ground motion (typically at periods of between 0.1 and 100 seconds) as a function of time. Sensitive instruments, which greatly magnify these ground motions, can detect strong earthquakes from sources anywhere in the world. Each seismometer records the shaking of the ground directly beneath it. Seismometers record the vibrations from earthquakes that travel through the Earth. The time, location, and magnitude of an earthquake can be determined from the data recorded by seismometer.

High res faerun map2/18/2024 ![]() And again, I do not think we will ever be told anything either way, unless WOTC has a major direction shift in their overall approach to D&D.The very basics: Earth is made of tectonic plates. Unless there is something that I know for a fact has changed forever (again Tymanthyr for instance, which is currently fighting w Unther I believe?), I'm treating everything as it was back in 3e from a geographic perspective until told otherwise. Evermeet, Halruaa, etc are all confirmed to be back, and I expect the majority of the rest of Faerun is too. So for me personally, I interpret it as meaning that more or less nothing has changed. The in-universe explanation for this is that they weren't really destroyed, but exchanged with ones from Abeir and the Second Sundering returned most, if not all of them. This is because 5e (Second Sundering) essentially retconned most, if not all, of the 4e (Spellplague) geographic changes, because they were highly unpopular with most fans (aside from basically Tymanthyr). ![]() And so far, I do not believe any of that material shows major differences between 3e and 5e. For example, an ELB HTTPCode_Backend_5XX alarm would treat missing data as 'notBreaching', when 5xx errors occur infrequently.įor the prometheus/cloudwatch_exporter to fully support the CloudWatch Metrics API, it also needs a mechanism for allowing users to decide how to handle missing data. zero.ĬloudWatch Alarms is one example where users are intended to interpret missing data. The method depends on the target applications like a browser writing out information about its keys. You need to share a key between the target browser or application and Wireshark.
